Sometimes, I astound myself

Tue Apr 21, 2009, 1:24 AM
You know when you're having a really crap day/week/month and even your lovely partner can't cheer you up. I was having one of those. Until I started making patterns again! I used to hate it, now I love it.

My latest pattern is for a long line overbust, mainly because I want to start wearing corsets but find overbusts unbearable (with having no boobs and lots of ribs) so I thought I'd experiment. And I'm long in the body too so I took that into consideration, and I have a bit of a belly, because my dad keeps buying me chocolate!!! Yes I'm blaming everyone but myself, I can't say no to chocolate and they know this.

So I thought of the long line overbust, made a pattern, made a mock-up ([link] scroll down and you'll see it) and I am now not going to take the mock-up off until I have the real deal to wear. It's so comfortable and I'm loving the lack of love handles! I have room to cinch further too, (so far I've taken two inches off with two to go).

I'm just loving it. I'm going to develop this pattern further... Good job I'm not going to Sams today because I am super motivated to make mock-ups....

It looks awesome! And I like the way your collection of patterns is broadening - there's designs to suit all different body shapes - I'm sure this will appeal to a bigger customer base :)

It looks really good on as well :D

Thanks, I'm so pleased with how comfortable it is. I'm the comfort queen and never wear anything that is remotely uncomfortable so I'm pleased. I think if a corset can be worn for a length of time without any comfort issues then it has to be a best seller :p

I'm definately aiming for all different body shapes, and also different levels of modesty. That long line one has a lot of lower coverage so theres no love handles showing, and I shaped it like the hem of a shirt. I'm planning on making one that keeps a lot of the cleavage covered too, because some women prefer that option.

I've added a sweetheart overbust to that list now too. Although the picture is slightly wonky, it gets the point accross, and ignore the clothing, I wanted to wear close fitting garments so it didn't hinder the corset whilst making sure no body parts were on show!! Lol.

I think to make a corset comfortable for a long period of time means that you know what you're doing, and if it doesn't become a bestseller then there is something wrong with the universe lol.

I look forward to finished items of those being photgraphed, as nice as the mock-ups are, your finished pieces are lovely :)

How is the 'one corset a day' thing going - you keeping up?

The one corset a day thing (I'm having a practice run and doing the few orders I have) is working out pretty well, apart from the fancier bridal corsets I'm doing. They are taking two days. All in all I think I have found my comfort zone with corsets and know what to do and when to do it to get them done to a high standard in a short space of time.

I have a couple finished now to take a picture of it's just finding the time. I keep procrastinating on here when I should be sewing. I have a wedding dress sample to finish before friday -_- lol

I think one to two days per corset is pretty good - you'll be having a good turnover and people will be happy that they are getting amazing handmade corsets in such a short time frame :)

Hehe I know what you mean, I am the queen of procrastination! I'm sure you will have it finished though :)
